Praying for Wisdom - James 1:5-8

James 1:5–8 (ESV)
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Lacking Wisdom
  • We need wisdom because we struggle to find joy in the midst of our trials. (James 1:2-4)
  • Wisdom is putting knowledge into practice.
  • Wisdom is practical application as we navigate life.
  • Wisdom is the God-given understanding that enables us to live a faithful and joyful life.
  • Wisdom is seeing God in all of our situations. Seeing Him and trusting in Him.

Ask of God who Gives Generously
  • Who else should we turn to?
  • Ask throughout our life.  Not just once. We should seek wisdom from God often.
  • He is all wise, all loving, all powerful.
  • Gives without approach. That is who God is and what He does.
  • Truth saves by the Gospel. Truth/Wisdom sustains us.

Ask in Faith
  • In dependence on Him.
  • Trusting in His perfect will
  • Confident that He hears and will respond.

Those that doubt
  • Receive nothing, because they do not truly believe.
  • Unstable in their ways. Not on solid ground. Up and down.
  • Double-minded. Some head knowledge, but no heart knowledge.  A hypocrite
