Leadership: Be an Example

Make a commitment to LEAD by example.

1 Timothy 4:12
Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. (ESV)

Your words
  • Let your daily words align with your team talks and yearly expectations. Changing a team culture starts with the coaches. Let your words be words that are pleasing to the Lord.
  • The words we speak in unguarded moments tend to have the greatest impact in the lives of our athletes, both negative and positive.

Your actions
  • We have all seen the athlete acting like they are running at 100%, but we know that they are not.
  • We have an audience of one, the Lord. Are we pretending or are we really striving to live a God honoring life. How often have we said to our players…DO THE NEXT THING RIGHT! The same is true for us.

As I consider the saying and doing of life, I am grateful that I do not have to live this life in my own strength and power. I will never be perfect, but I can try to be blameless. Remember,  God’s grace is sufficient. It is HIM through me that enables us to live this life.

Coach, YOU GOT THIS!
